The Industry That Cannot Stop Apologising for Itself

Love It

Listen to how recruitment talks about recruitment.

It is "just a numbers game." It is a stepping stone to something better. It is a trade people fall into rather than choose. Even the people who are brilliant at it will tell you, with a shrug, that they did not exactly plan to end up here.

We find that strange. Because recruitment, done properly, is one of the most human jobs there is.

You change lives for a living. You put the right person in the right place, and a career turns, a family relaxes, a business finds the one hire that unlocks the next five years. You are trusted with the two things people guard most closely. A candidate's livelihood. A client's reputation. That is not a numbers game. That is a craft.

So why does the industry keep apologising for itself?

Partly because it has been taught to. Treat the work as transactional and it becomes transactional. Measure only the dials and the placements, and you train good people to forget what they are actually doing. Strip the soul out, and of course it starts to feel soulless.

Meraki means doing something with your whole soul. That is not a slogan we borrowed. It is the word the entire company is named after. And it is why Love It is a value, and not an afterthought.

We back this industry because we love it. The people. The pace. The strange alchemy of a great consultant who can read a room down a phone line. We are not here for the multiple alone. Capital that does not love the thing it backs ends up squeezing it. And a business that is being squeezed cannot do its best work.

The businesses that win are run by people who genuinely love the work. You can feel it the moment you walk in. It is in the energy, the standards, the way they talk about their clients.

So stop apologising. The work is good. The work matters.

Love it, and it will love you back.
